The Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL)
The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL)
is a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to expand
learning opportunities for adults.
CAEL works with colleges and universities, companies, labor
organizations, and state and local governments to remove policy
and organizational barriers to learning opportunities, identify
and disseminate effective practices, and deliver value-added
services.
For over thirty years, CAEL has used its knowledge of adult/employee
learning practices to be an active intermediary, leveraging
the strengths and capabilities of each of the constituencies
it serves. CAEL manages tuition assistance and career development
programs for companies, consults with companies on how to implement
learning programs and policies, and links employers to providers
of education and training.

Pamela Tate, President & CEO, CAEL
Pamela Tate, is internationally recognized for her work in facilitating
workforce education and training programs among business, labor,
educational institutions, and government and for her efforts
in assisting colleges and universities to develop systems of
Prior Learning Assessment and quality assurance in adult learning
programs. As a presenter, she is regularly sought out for her
vision and insights into adult learning and workforce development
and their vital relationship to the future of the economy.
About Michelle Sanford, Director, WorkforceChicago2.0
Michelle Sanford is Director of WorkforceChicago2.0. Michelle
has 20 years of leadership experience and a diverse set of skills
including: executive coaching; leadership consulting and organizational
development; product development; marketing management; and
change and restructuring management.
Prior to her current position, she served as the Director of
Product Marketing for a leading manufacturer of educational
toys for children. Michelle is a Certified Professional Co-Active
Coach (C.P.C.C.) and holds a B.A. in Individual and Organizational
Leadership from DePaul University's School for New Learning.

Since 1999, M. Bernadette Patton has led HRMAC, the Midwest’s
premier membership group supporting Chicago-area companies on
strategic workforce issues. During her tenure, the organization
has more than doubled its program offering to over 65 events
each year ( 90% of which are free to member companies), established
alliances with business and human resource organizations, and
attracted employers to the membership roster from all industries,
both large and small, profit and non-profit, local and global
. Patton holds the association industry's highest designation,
Certified Association Executive, and is highly regarded as a

About Paul O’Connor, Executive Director of WBC
In September 1999, Mayor Richard M. Daley asked Paul O’Connor
to start the not-for-profit, public-private World Business Chicago
(WBC). As its founding executive director, O’Connor led
Chicago’s efforts to land the world headquarters of The
Boeing Company, YMCA, and Mittal Steel USA (America’s
largest steel company); the retention of Quaker Oats, USG Corporation
and Brunswick Corporation; and numerous other companies, resulting
in thousands of new jobs and billions in private investment.
Paul came to the start-up, public-private economic development
corporation after a career spanning journalism, state government,
and corporate marketing.
